How to put a password on your Shopify store

For one reason or another, you will need to put a password on your Shopify store. Maybe you’re having some work done on it, and don’t want it to be public yet. Or, you’re doing a full website redesign. Whatever the reason, in this article, we will go over how to put a password on your Shopify store.

This can be done by adding a password to your store in “Preferences”. Let’s break this done in detail.

Adding a password

The first step in how to put a password on your Shopify store is to go to your store’s admin page. This looks like http://www.yourshopifystore.com/admin.

From there, look on the left panel, and click on Online Store. After that, click on Preferences. This takes you to a section where you can edit how you want your store to operate and any custom features you have in mind.

To add a password, scroll down until you see the section Restrict Store Access. In this section, you can add a password to your store, and even a message to your visitors.

With this message, you could say something like: “Hey! We are currently working on our website. Come back soon for our new, fresh relaunch!” A kind message like this is nice for your visitors to see while your store is having work done on it.

One other thing. When it comes to setting a password for your store, keep it as simple as possible so that visitors have no trouble typing it in.
