In my opinion, the best way to create a free website is by coding and hosting it yourself (maybe it’s because I’m a software developer). But, when you create your own website for free, you are no longer platform dependent, and you own the code. Here’s what I mean.

Let’s say you had your website on Squarespace, but for some reason something happens to your website, and people cannot visit it anymore. Now, all that hard work you put into it is gone! But, when you own the code, that can never happen, because you can just host your website somewhere else. That brings us to our next section.

Hosting and Domain Costs

Unfortunately, no website is ever truly free. You see, in order for a website to appear on Google, it needs to be hosted with a hosting service, and it needs to have a domain (the http://www.website.com part) tied to it. Those are two things that you have to pay for. Apart from that, you should be able to do a lot of the things tied to your website for free.
